NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT After the self-induced collapse of the Eastern Bloc, the Cold War came to a close, and efforts toward disarmament were given a major boost. It is an irony of history that this day-to-be-remembered was also the day upon which the Pacific War, which ended with the dropping of atom bombs, began.
