Open to Professionals and Amateurs

Open to all regardless of nationality, race, sex, or age.

Stipulations

1) Comic strip: (1 frame/page; no more than 4 pages; any color); size: A3 paper (or smaller).
2) Animated film (any length): 8mm, 16mm, 35mm (or video); must have been made in the past two years.
3) Three-dimensional work
4) Musical work

How Works Will Be Announced

Broadcast on the Internet as they are received.

Displayed first in the International Cartoon Conference (January 24`28, 1996) held in Angouleme, France.

Displayed in the International Animation Festival (August 1996) held in Hiroshima and other exhibitions scheduled to be held in Tahiti,Tokyo (COMIC BOX Gallery) and various other countries around the world.

Prize

Total prize money: 2,000,000 yen (guaranteed by Comic Box); scheduled to be increased by future sponsorship. Individual prizes will be set at a later date.

Judges

Persons carrying out first-line activities in various fields.

Period

Until the mission of the work is accomplished; basically, until the last nuclear warhead in the world is eliminated.

Deadline

A deadline has not yet been set, but superior works received during January will be taken to Angouleme, France.

Publicity and Public Information

Posters drawn by the global animator, Mr. Yuri Norsthein, and of the unused continuity sheet of the movie "Yume" drawn by the gloval movie director, Mr. Akira Kurosawa, and which are presently being prepared; posters will be donated to famous art galleries and cartoon museums.

Post announcements on the Internet and request cooperation and publishing of information from other media: Japanese newspaper companies, TV, radio stations, communication companies, and publishing companies.

Request cooperation and participation of cartoonists' associations or animation associations throughout the world.

Request cooperation and participation of Japanese embassies in the various countries in the world, various municipalities (especially Hiroshima and Nagasaki), educational committees, elementary schools, junior-high schools, and high schools, businesses, citizens' networks, environmental protection societies, and foreign art galleries and museums.

Plan to insert a full-page ad in the New York Times.

Prepare a life-size model of a little boy and display it at the Cartoon Conferences in Angouleme, France and at the Hiroshima International Animation Festival (August 1996); make direct requests to animators for drawings.

Prepare and sell a catalog of the above works (Japanese, English, French, and Chinese editions).


* Donations are requested of artists' past works approved for this program and of cartoons/animated works in line with the aims of this program. (More than one work may be submitted.) Participation of artists at the display/screening of works at the exhibition site (including the Internet) is also requested.

* The right to publish the work shall belong to the Executive Committee (but, of course, the author shall hold the copyright). Royalties paid to the Committee for posters, postcards, and other material created by the Committee shall be the standard royalty, 3%. Also, when posters or postcards are requested to be created by someone other than the Committee, the author's royalty for such works shall be 1.5%.

* This Committee is a nonprofit organization, but financial activities related to the holding of the Exhibition will be performed. All profits will be used to extend these activities throughout the world.
