MARTIAL LAW After the assassination of President Park, demonstrations spread across South Korea demanding democratization, and the government responded by imposing martial law. In Kwanju, students clashed most violently with the enforcers of martial law. In the end, more than 2,000 citizens and students were killed by the army.
